Welcome to Mike's Tangents...
Hey there! Thanks for stopping by. This online journal covers both professional notes & images from Mike Steelman Photographers as well as personal notes, thoughts, aspirations, questions & whatever else is going on inside my head & heart. I'm always striving to be one step out of my comfort zone and growing, so you'll find this a journey that's real. It's intended for you to get to know me just a bit more, & I welcome your comments below each post (seriously, I want to hear what you think!). I'm so blessed to be doing something that I love & I hope you'll be able to get a sense of my passion. I'm all about keeping it real & I want you to be comfortable with your photographer selection, so be sure to check out my info page.
Based on the beautiful Monterey Peninsula in CA, I'm blessed to be a wedding photographer with Pebble Beach, Carmel Valley, & Big Sur in my backyard, in addition to having Santa Cruz just minutes across the bay. I travel the country documenting gorgeous weddings & photoshoots. If you'd like to book your wedding or other photo shoot, definitely click the contact page & let me know. And be sure to click on my portfolio for more info & images.
Thanks so much for swinging by! Sit back, relax, & enjoy the tangents...
In just a few days I’ll be making my annual drive down to Las Vegas for the WPPI (Wedding & Portrait Photographers International) convention! A hullabaloo of craziness, where education meets a fun, social and exuberant crowd of some 11-12,000 photographers from around the world…in addition to tons of camera gear, photography equipment, and vendors galore. (I’m already a little overwhelmed!). It’s a great time for me to learn from other industry leaders, stay abreast the current technology and products out there, and keep on top of the best quality items to offer my clients.
Also, in exactly one week from today, I’m SO stoked & honored to be chosen to be a part of the closing program of WPPI and SPEAKING with Photographers Ignite! On Thursday, March 11th between 9am-11am, I’ll be giving a short, but fully packed, fast talking & fun presentation in “Mike-enese”. On what? you may ask… You’ll have to come find out! Here’s a sneak peek:
Just a quick note to let you know (or remind you) that tomorrow La Playa Hotel will be holding their in-house bridal show from 12-4pm, and you’ll be able to meet select vendors from their preferred vendor list. I’ll be there with a glimpse of my work and would love the opportunity to meet you in person! This will also be a great time for you to check out this beautiful venue located in gorgeous Carmel-By-The-Sea.
And with that said, what a perfect way to catch up on my blog posts and share with you the intimate wedding of Michael & Ana at La Playa Hotel!
Congratulations again Michael & Ana! It was a true honor to share in your day.
LOVE…It’s my favorite thing to capture in a photograph.
And when you combine it with two joyful attitudes, the results are fantastic!
Meet Carlos & Sarah. They’re getting married in July and are the perfect example of a perfect image. We started out the day for their engagement session with a simple brick wall, but found some fun in a hazy mirrored window. I always like to shoot loosely for fun at first to warm my clients up a bit. It didn’t take long, however, for these two to catch on…
As we spent more time together I started seeing some pictures in mind for these two and took them down to Cannery Row in Monterey for a few shots at the beach…
It was supposed to rain later in the day but the early morning weather was perfect for shooting. Oh the overcast clouds of Monterey…
So here’s the beauty of being on the Monterey Peninsula – everything is within minutes away! As we continued shooting, I started to get a different thought for Sarah & Carlos’ images and took them 5 minutes over the hill to Carmel.
And of course they rocked it!
And just for fun…
And finally. I just love how the lines of the mountains were perfectly lined up as though this image, this moment, was meant to be for them.
I had a blast shooting with you Carlos & Sarah! Looking forward to your big day!
It’s going to be beautiful indeed.
I just wanted to give a little shout out to all of you who bid on me and other photographers for the mentor auction.
THANK YOU!
You all seriously rock. Together we raised $41, 635.88 in two days, helping Thirst Relief save 8, 327 lives by providing access to safe, clean drinking water.
